After a delay of the flight from Denver to Tokyo/Narita of more than 2 hours, I knew the connecting flight would be gone, so I made myself comfortable in my extra-legspace seat and decided not to worry about it. Because I can't quite shut off that Plan B button in my head (thanks to my dad who always asked "what's Plan B?") I did look up some hotel/train/bus options, especially since United is under no obligation to pay for lodging if the delay was caused by weather.

Flying over some ice covered landscape
Upon arrival, I made a beeline for immigration, which I was able to clear immediately and then arrived at a United Airlines table which was set up in baggage claim just for Denver passengers and missed connections. Have to love Japanese efficiency! I was told to please stay at a hotel, accept meal vouchers and board a transfer bus to Haneda (the other Tokyo airport) the next morning where I will fly out at 9:30 a.m. to Komatsu. And United paid for all of it. Can't complain about that! That way I will only lose 1/2 day in Kanazawa, which is not too bad.

Communication with Lynda is through WhatsApp (kind of like FB messenger, only quicker), because I don't have cell phone service in Japan and Lynda's is way too expensive. Only problem is, you need WiFi. Many places here have it, but sometimes we can't connect to it. I finally got a hold of Lynda after she arrived at our lodging place in Kanazawa, which has WiFi she can connect to (even though it is the oldest lodging building in town). Luckily, she knew I was going to be late and didn't wait for me, as originally planned. I'll see her tomorrow! Time for a Japanese salad bowl featuring things I have no clue what they are, bought in the hotel's own convenience store, and then off to bed!

ReplyDeleteSuper, United paid for all!
ReplyDeleteYes. but I had to cancel my one hour, English explained tea ceremony reservation for Friday morning and couldn't get another date. That was a bit disappointing, because for 3 trips now I've been looking for an event like this. I'll keep on looking!

DeleteThat IS! Maybe ask to call you back if there's any cancellation...
